Week 09/5/2018 to 09/12/2018

This week I have done research on different types of braking systems that are used on moving vehicles such as cars, trains, and bart trains. The idea that I proposed last week was a emergency brake system using a spring and electromagnetic solenoids. This system will activate as soon as power is cut to the bogie. As the soon the power is cut to the bogie, the solenoid will not produce a magnetic field which will release the spring and press the brake pad against the railing to stop the vehicle. I am currently doing some research on where we can place the solenoids on the bogie and the sizing of the parts. I am also looking at different types of solenoids and compression springs.

This week we delivered our final presentation on the Spartan Superway project. The end result was amazing and E-Brake worked better than I had expected. The alumni event was a great experience as I demonstrated my project to many people. Overall the Spartan Superway project has been a great experience and I have learned so much. Week of 04-24-2019 to 05-1-2019

This week I was able to get all of my parts welded from Huffman's Welding in Newark, CA. The parts came out excellent and the next step is to be to assemble everything and begin testing of the system. The picture below shows the welded parts.

Week of 04-17-2019 to 04-24-2019

The emergency braking is almost ready for testing. The manufacturing is almost complete with an exception of the welding work. The parts have been sent out for welding and I will get them back on April 29th. After the parts are put together, I would like to start testing to ensure that everything is in working order.
